One of the guests at Rhianna & Alex's wedding today is a casual wedding photographer- she does 1 or 2 weddings a year. She came over to chat me up about my work, which is pretty common. What wasn't so common was a single sentence analysis she did of my overal life interests that really made sense.
As most of you should know, I am in law school. Hopefully I'll be going into family law some day down the road. Law school and photography don't really go together. People frequently ask how I got into photography, and although it has always been something I enjoyed, it was a result of being a nanny for a set of identical twin girls as an undergraduate that got me the job I have now. I photographed those little girls daily the last few months before I graduated as a gift to their parents- and photography found ME as something more than a hobby. The fact that I was also a nanny, and a once upon a time a preschool teacher also stuns many, and I have made half-ass attempts at explaining it.
This woman did that today in just one moment. She told me, "Well that makes perfect sense. What all of those things have in common is People, and Relationships."
Single largest epiphany I've had in YEARS.
One of the guests at R & A's wedding also insisted on taking my picture- with my own camera! Now I am pretty possessive of my camera and typically don't even let anyone TOUCH it, let alone HOLD it! But this person was the stand-in Dad to the bride and we were standing on very soft grass ( I squatted in it, I know!) So here I am, for those of you who don't know what I look like, with the lovely bride Rhianna, this afternoon. :)
