Napa Engagement Photography Session (Melissa and Harley)

Melissa and Harley chose to do their engagement session all over Napa- pretty much their home turf! They know every winery like the back of their hand and have a personal relationship with pretty much EVERYONE. This also means we pretty much had the run of any winery or Inn we went to, too. Can we give a little WHEWHOO for Melissa and Harley? WHEWHOOo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Melissa and Harley also REALLY like making out with each other. Can we get a second WHEWHOO for couples who actually like each other? WHEWHOO!!!!!!! (Have I embarrassed you two yet? ;) )

For Unto You a Child is Borne (He is Here) Updated!

in the city of Provo... (Updated at the bottom!)

Last night a baby named Grace was not borne unto Shirlene and Dave, as they expected and had planned for. Their baby girl layette will not be used as planned. No, nothing dire has happened, just a slight change in plans.

Um, instead, they are trying to think up a name for this sweet baby BOY their Heavenly Father has ding dong ditched into their crib and are trying to scrape up some little boy clothes so he doesn't have to wear a DRESS home from the hospital!

Yes, you read that right. For the past 40 weeks of this pregnancy (or at least since their 20 week ultrasound) Shirlene and Dave have been planning and preparing for the birth of their little baby GIRL, who was (probably) going to be named Grace. (Name wasn't set in stone yet). Baby girl had a full wardrobe, crib, handmade carseat cover, cribset, clothes galore and a big sister in waiting to attack her with princess clothes.

Until "she" was born with boy parts. Whups. Hey, guys I think you might have missed something on that ultrasound!

Who would have thought doctors made such mistakes like that in this day and age?! LOL

SURPRISE MOM AND DAD! I'm really a BOY! Hee hee!

Just like a man, right? Always causing trouble and getting into mischief! LOL Naughty, naughty, naughty. If that baby could giggle, I'm sure he would be right now! lol This is all going to be a really cute and funny story in a few years, but now I think it's more of a shock than anything else!

Please enjoy Shirlene's girl themed maternity portraits with her little boy secretly stowed away inside! lol ;)

You laugh now Shirlene... but the joke is still coming...!

You know she sewed her ENTIRE layette for this baby "girl"? Which was her first big sewing project ever? She sewed her own carseat cover! It was pink! With ruffles! It was beautiful! And totally NOT GENDER NEUTRAL!

Check back in a day or two and I'll update you with a name and hopefully a picture! I hear he is super cute and looks just like his big brother, (he joins big brother Jonathan and first time big sister Sarah) who is VERY cute, so I'm sure he is totally adorable. No matter what's going on in his diaper (SNORT!), this baby will be loved and adored! I hope I get to snuggle him too! <3

Updates!

Introducing..

Gordon James, 8 lbs 12 oz and 21 inches long!

Is that a sneaky smile or what? >:D I love this kid already!

Her eyes as stars of Twilight fair;
Like Twilight's, too, her dusky hair;
But all things else about her drawn
From May-time and the cheerful Dawn;
A dancing Shape, an Image gay,
To haunt, to startle, and way-lay.

... A countenance in which did meet
Sweet records, promises as sweet;
A Creature not too bright or good
For human nature's daily food;
For transient sorrows, simple wiles,
Praise, blame, love, kisses, tease and smiles.

...A perfect Woman, nobly planned.
To warn, to comfort, and command;
And yet a Spirit still, and bright
With something of angelic light.

Rio Linda Couple's Portrait Photography (Cecilia and Matt)

We whipped this session out a heck of a lot faster than it took me to post this blog about it! A quickie to get the Christmas cards out in the mail- DONE! :)

Matt, a local celebrity for being the owner of Paladin Security, and Cecilia my occasional assistant, and their dog Scar- whose talent is hanging from a rope from a tree for 30 minutes. For fun. Uh-huh. He eats chickens sometimes too. LOCK UP YOUR [furry] CHILDREN! lol Scar is a pivotal employee of Paladin so he needs those strong jaws to get the bad guys, and as for that chicken, well I'm sure he had it coming.

Monte Verde Inn Wedding (Toree and Andrew)

I love Toree and Andrew. They are one of my favorite clients from this year. I know their wedding day didn't turn out quite the way they expected, but what I always tell my couples is that when it comes down to it in the end, all that matters is that you have the privilege of spending your life with your partner. Andrew and Toree got that. They have been together for a long time and are an amazing fit for each other. They smack each other around (not really, lol), they've gone through good times and bad, and they'll probably go through worse and better. (Hopefully just the better though.) I truly believe they are a perfect fit for each other and bawled my little eyes out during Andrew's speech at the reception. There were some important people who became absent from the wedding at the last minute, and as a group, Andrew asked that everyone say the Serenity Prayer. Ashley, (coincidentally from Salon Paisley who did Toree's hair, AND my other client Sarah's hair back in August) led everyone, and I know that I wasn't the only one who got teary thinking about the strong new family sitting before us in that small ballroom in Foresthill that night.

God, grant me the serenity
To accept the things I cannot change;
Courage to change the things I can;
And the wisdom to know the difference.
January 3rd marked the five month anniversary of when my own life took a dramatic turn, and I find myself no better off, or barely any better off than I was then. It's then I have to remember what Andrew said that night, and the Serenity Prayer has certainly given me some peace in my own frequent low moments as well. Serenity, Courage and Wisdom should have been on all of our Christmas lists...

Andrew and Toree deserve nothing but happiness and joy and if by gosh darn we have to ding dong ditch kittens on their porch everyday until eternity to do that, well.... hee hee, I'd be obliged. :)

On a creepy side note, two of my ex-boyfriends got married at Toree and Andrew's venue, during the same year, six months apart to the day. How freaky is that??? LOL

Toree planned the most gorgeous details. Girls, you should ALL aspire to this! Beautiful, simple, elegant, modern! (Squeal!) On with the show!

Santa Ana Court House Wedding 01 01 11 11:01 He asked her to Dance... (Jim & Andrea's Orange County Courthouse Wedding)

My mom's name is Andrea. My middle name is Andrea, as are my sisters. Our favorite waitress at our favorite restaurant in Yorba Linda is also named Andrea. It makes perfect sense that the woman my dad asked to dance at Salsa four and a half years ago was also named Andrea. (Although her response at this revelation was, "...ew." ) And on Saturday, in a room packed with mostly offspring and their offspring and of course some reporters, they married.

(At least he won't get confused as he enters these years of senility... LOL ;) I told him, Andrea really must not think much of your counting skills when she picked this wedding date. 01/01/11 at 11:01am? Of course, when the Judge asked my dad if he would take Andrea in sickness and in health he said something like, "Just HOW much sicker are we talkin'?" LOL )

from the Register:

"To Andrea Cockrell, a computer programmer, the date 1-1-11 "looked binary." The binary numeral system represents numeric values using two symbols: 0 and 1.

Cockrell, 61, wed Jim Heizer, 68. The Anaheim couple had known each other for about four and a half years. When she was sick and waiting for a liver transplant at the UCLA hospital, for six weeks he drove up every day from Anaheim to see her."We were waiting for an auspicious" wedding date, said Heizer, who retired from managing investments for insurance companies. And they happily picked 11:01 as their wedding appointment time.
Cockrell added: "There's a certain cachet" to getting married on 1-1-11."

Did any of you catch it? My sin of all sins? I don't allow any of the people in my portaits to put their arms or hands on their "neighbors" in group photos to keep things uniform. And after I set up the camera, my family and my stand in photographer, I got in line... and immediately put my hand on my brother's arm for the picture.

For SHAME.

(SMACK HEAD!)

lol

It's so much harder shooting for your family than any other person or client. It just is. You're not the professional, competent photographer who has shot 200 weddings and been published in 2 magazines to them. You're the baby sister whose diaper they changed, stroller they pushed home from day care and whose arm they punched when things got too cozy in the back seat on long car rides. And you feel that way too! It's hard to be as assertive and do the things you need to do (stand up straight, adjust each person in line so their bodies are the most flattering and pointing the right way, getting rid of purses, glasses, tinted rx glasses that make you look like a raccoon and wreck havoc on editing....) when you're literally whining at your dad to take "just one more picture" for his wedding album.

Too bad I don't drink.

Thank the Lord there was guacamole at the reception.

SALVATION!
