30th Birthday 30 Layer Rainbow Cake (Out of the Office)

Today, March 24th is my 30th Birthday. Or, as I like to call it, my 24th birthday, the sequel. :)
My wonderful friend made me this amazing cake last night. Isn't it INCREDIBLE?
I am seriously out of the office all weekend and I am not going to answer emails. I swear. I really mean it this time. I do! (I always say I won't and I do anyway, and this time, no!)
The last couple of years have been pretty hard, the hardest I've had yet. But as  I've heard, the twenties are to learn the lessons and the thirties are for just livin'!
I'm going on a little hiking trip, so off I go! taking a break today, and much needed time out and in a few days I'm going to go on some hiking trips I hope!

I tried to look enthusiastic... Like a fat kid loves cake!!!! :)

Cake created, designed, made by my dear friend Miss P of the Brookfield School
She'll have an Etsy Shop available soon and I'm going to link to it!

Pastel Sacramento Engagement Photographer (Jennifer & Brian's Wedding)

Jennifer & Brian are marrying at the Inn at Park Winters, which is about the cutest little place to get married ever! We shot their engagement session in two parts, to expect this to be a two parter blog post with two outfits! This session was shot along the river and amongst the woods of Sacramento, as so many of my sessions are. I just find so much peace and beauty in the woods and meadows and I absolutely love shooting out in nature. I can't wait to get going on our weddings this year, they are going to be amazing!

Creekside Sacramento Engagement Photographer (Jenna & Simon are engaged!)

Jenna & Simon will be marrying in July in Tahoe at the Kirkwood Hideout. I am super excited for their wedding and was even more excited that we got to get together for their engagement session! This was one of my new secret locations, which is totally a gem in the rough, and I am loving it! Drop me a line if you'd like to take a trip out here for a shoot and I'd love to take another couple back- it was just gorgeous!

Congratulations to Jenna & Simon! (And puppy Mason!) I'll see you in July!

Enchanted Wedding at Nestldown in Los Gatos

H & S  married at the most magical venue Northern California has to offer- the enchanted Nestldown. A special place with lake, a meadow, a meandering little train, and even a true enchanted cottage. We took pictures all over the property and I can't wait to go back. H & S are so excited to be expecting their first child, a son as a gift from their honeymoon and if that isn't a fairy tale ending I don't know what is! To Nestldown! :)

Relais du Soleil Peace Corps Wedding Photography in Glen Elen

Sara and Mike met in Africa, in Burkina Faso when they were both serving missions for the Peace Corps. Although they served their missions on opposite sides of the country and only met a few times while serving, they both cited their time in the Peace Corps as absolutely life changing, and many of the choices they made about their wedding centered around those early experiences they shared.
It wasn't until a couple of years later when they ran into each other again on Columbia University's campus in New York when they were both working on their Master's degrees that they recognized the connection they had and ultimately decided to go for it. Their story ran in the New York Times (with one of my pictures!) the weekend of their wedding. This is an older wedding that never made it to the blog, but you can go back and read the article in the NY Times here. :) That will also link you to their engagement pictures, which we shot in their neighborhood in Washington DC, and in Rock Creek Park!

There were a ton of awesome cultural dances at this wedding. Many of the guests had served with Mike and Sara in Burkina Faso in Africa in the Peace Corps. It was truly one of the most memorable experiences I've had as a photographer to see them dance with such joy!

Mike's family is from Ireland, and was so excited when they began to play traditional music, they just ripped up the dance floor dancing traditional Irish reels! It was so fun!

No wedding is complete without wedding ducks hot tub side... Right?
